Dental Implants: The Gold Standard for Tooth Replacement

Missing teeth can make you feel aged, insecure, and unattractive. If you wear wobbly dentures, you’ve probably had some embarrassing moments when eating.

Dental implants are made to function just like your natural tooth roots. One implant can secure a single dental crown, two will act as an abutment to hold a bridge in place, and four to six will stabilize a denture.

How Do Implants Work?

Dental implants are an excellent solution to missing teeth. The small titanium posts are embedded in the jaw and offer unrivaled support for crowns, bridges, and dentures. They are topped by abutments, which connect the titanium post to the final restoration. In addition to replacing missing teeth, dental implants can protect the shape and structure of your jaws while preventing bone atrophy. At our Hendersonville, TN office, dentist Bryan Carlin can place and restore dental implants, ensuring top-quality care from start to finish.

Following your consultation, Dr. Carlin may recommend:

Are You a Candidate?

Dental implants can treat the loss of one or more teeth. Edentulism can result from a variety of reasons, including trauma, tooth decay, gum disease, abscess, or other dental problem. Candidates for dental implants have experienced the loss of:

Candidacy Requirements for Dental Implants

Most patients who seek the life-changing benefits of dental implants are candidates for the restorative treatment. As with any oral surgery, patients should be in good oral and overall health and free from any conditions, such as periodontal disease, that could complicate surgery or recovery. During your consultation at our Hendersonville dental practice, our dentist will use computed tomography (CT) scans, digital x-rays, and other tools to determine if you are a candidate for dental implants.

If you have sustained bone recession as a result of tooth loss, you may need a preliminary bone graft to augment your jaw. Dr. Carlin also offers mini dental implants for patients without sufficient jawbone tissue. If you are seeking an implant-supported solution to restore an entire arch, Dr. Carlin offers All-on-4 dental implants for dentures. Once your All-on-4 implants are placed, you can receive a temporary restoration that same day, so you never have to be without teeth.

I absolutely love Dr Carlin and his staff! They always go above and beyond to make sure that my kids and I have the best dental experience. When my son was a baby Tina would clean my teeth and the other staff would push him in a stroller so he stayed calm and I could stay calm as well! They are truly a caring and spectacular group!!

You Are Never Too Old to Restore Your Dental Function

Age will not affect your eligibility for restorative dentistry procedures. Age is a risk factor for low jawbone density, but we encourage patients of any age to visit our Hendersonville dental practice to explore their candidacy options for dental implants, dental bridges, and other types of treatment. You are never too old to retain natural oral function following the loss of one or more natural teeth.

Will My Dental Implant Surgery Hurt?

There may be some mild level of discomfort experienced as part of the dental implant placement process, especially in the first day or two following surgery. Special care will be taken to ensure that you are adequately numbed to begin and we also offer nitrous oxide, oral medication, and intravenous (IV) sedation. By carefully following Dr. Carlin’s recovery guidelines, you can minimize discomfort following surgery.

Sedation methods

To help make your treatment as comfortable and safe as possible, Dr. Carlin works with an anesthesiology service called Nashville Office-Based Anesthesia, or NOBA.

Dr. Carlin also performs implant placement with the aid of an incredibly precise surgical guide. We design these guides using detailed CT scans to ensure your safety and an even more predictable outcome.

How Do I Prepare for Implant Surgery?

During your consultation at our dentistry office, serving patients from Hendersonville and surrounding areas, Dr. Carlin can assess your oral health and evaluate your medical history before scheduling your surgery. Often, Dr. Carlin can place and restore implants himself. However, in more complex cases, he may work with a trusted oral surgeon and coordinate your treatment.

A Typical Treatment Timeline

Sedation

On the day of your surgery, local anesthesia and sedation will be administered to ensure that you are comfortable.

Surgery

Your implant dentist, Dr. Carlin, or a trusted oral surgeon will begin the procedure by making a small incision in your gums. Your dental implant will then be inserted, and the incision will be closed using sutures.

Initial Recovery

A temporary restoration may be provided. You should plan to have a ride arranged to return home and rest.

Full Recovery

Full recovery from dental implant placement can take three to six months. During your recovery, the implant will fuse with your jaw tissue through a natural process called osseointegration.

Restoration

After you have recovered, you can return to our Hendersonville office to receive your permanent crown, bridge, or denture.

Tips for a Healthy Recovery from Implant Surgery

Swelling, soreness, and small amounts of bleeding are to be expected during the first day after dental implant placement. Patients should rest while avoiding any activity that could disturb the surgical site. Most patients are able to manage discomfort or mild pain using over-the-counter medications. Dr. Carlin will provide recovery guidelines that should be followed closely.

Life after Dental Implants

Dental implants are a long-term solution to tooth loss, and are quickly becoming the standard and not the exception in restorative dentistry. Our patients report that implant-retained dentures, bridges, and crowns feel and function like natural teeth. Patients who maintain good oral hygiene habits while avoiding tobacco use can enjoy their dental implants for a lifetime.

Understanding Treatment Cost

Dental implants are not typically covered by insurance. Our prices are in line with those of other dentists in the area, but we offer quality products, advanced technology, and personalized care that other providers may not. For example, we often recommend Hiossen® or Nobel Biocare® implants because of their durability and lasting results.

The average cost for dental implant cases at our practice is $2,000-4,500.
